Copa America 2024: Colombia vs. Brazil Match Preview
The 2024 Copa America is back in action as Colombia faces Brazil at Levi’s Stadium in California on Tuesday. Both teams are eager to secure a win in this critical Group D matchup.
Colombia currently leads Group D and has shown excellent form in the tournament. They convincingly defeated Costa Rica 3-0 in their last match and will aim to maintain their momentum against Brazil.
Brazil sits 2nd in the group and has been inconsistent. However, they delivered a dominant 4-1 win over Paraguay in their previous game and will seek to replicate that success against Colombia.
Team News
Brazil might opt to bench key forward Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao, and Wendell to avoid potential suspensions as all three players are on yellow cards. Coach Fernando Diniz made two changes in their last match, with Wendell starting at left-back and Savio replacing Raphinha. Vinicius, who scored twice, has now scored 5 times for the Brazilian national team. Savio also scored his 1st international goal, while Lucas Paqueta, also on a yellow card, redeemed his missed penalty with a successful 65th-minute spot-kick.
Colombian captain James Rodriguez, who was substituted with less than 20 minutes remaining in their previous match, is expected to be fit for this game according to coach Néstor Lorenzo. However, Jefferson Lerma, Richard Rios, and Jhon Cordoba must be cautious as they are one yellow card away from missing the quarter-finals. In their last match, Luis Diaz scored a penalty, while Cordoba and Davinson Sanchez added to the tally.
