Bayern Munich Agreed on €51M Deal for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha
Bayern Munich has sealed a €51 million (£43.1m, $54.9m) agreement, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons, to sign Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha. This long-anticipated transfer follows a dramatic near-miss last summer, where Joao Palhinha was on the brink of joining the German giants. Despite completing his medical and even posing with the Bayern Munich shirt, the deal fell through as Fulham couldn’t secure a replacement in time.
Palhinha, 28, had also attracted a significant bid of £45 million ($58.8m) from West Ham United last summer, which Fulham turned down. According to the Report, Bayern’s pursuit this year started with an initial bid on June 9 and culminated in this final agreement on their third offer, setting a club record sale for Fulham.
Joao Palhinha has starred for Marco Silva’s side since joining from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2022, helping Fulham to secure successive mid-table positions in the Premier League.
In February, Fulham’s vice-chairman Tony Khan expressed openness to selling Palhinha for the right price, foreshadowing the move.
Currently representing Portugal at the EURO 2024, Palhinha is now set to join a Bayern Munich squad newly managed by Vincent Kompany, who took over in May 2024. This transfer not only marks a significant acquisition for Bayern Munich but also highlights their commitment to bolstering their midfield strength under Kompany’s new regime.
