Lionel Messi has Moved to 2nd place on the list of All-time men’s international scorers after scoring a goal in the Copa America 2024 semifinal against Canada.
With his 51st-minute strike, Lionel Messi has now scored 109 goals for Argentina, surpassing the legendary Iranian forward Ali Daei. Only Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored 130 goals for Portugal, stands ahead of him.
Lionel Messi scored his first of the 2024 Copa America and his 14th overall in the tournament. Argentina secured a 2-0 victory over Canada, advancing to Sunday’s final in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium where they will face Colombia or Uruguay.
This isn’t the only record Lionel Messi has broken at this year’s Copa America. In the opening match, he set a new appearance milestone, surpassing Chilean goalkeeper Sergio Livingstone’s record, which had stood since 1953.
Lionel Messi tied Daei’s record with two goals in Argentina’s 4-1 win over Guatemala just before the Copa America began.
India’s Sunil Chhetri is 4th on the list with 93 goals, while Malaysia’s Mokhtar Dahari completes the top five with 89 goals.
Messi, with 186 caps for Argentina, scored 109 goals and 56 assists, holding all major records for his country.
