Kylian Mbappe will be officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player at the Santiago Bernabeu on July 16.
Real Madrid has officially announced that Kylian Mbappe will wear the iconic number nine jersey. Kylian Mbappe, joining as a free transfer agent from Paris Saint-Germain, will be presented at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, July 16.
The 25-year-old is fresh from exiting UEFA Euro 2024, with France having lost 2-1 to Spain in the semi-finals.
Kylian Mbappe had a challenging tournament, not scoring from open play due to a broken nose suffered in France’s opening match. However, he did manage to score a penalty in their final group-stage match against Poland.
Kylian Mbappe will take the number 9 shirt previously worn by Real Madrid’s legend Karim Benzema. Additionally, Real Madrid announced new numbers for other players: Eduardo Camavinga will wear number six, Federico Valverde will switch to number eight, previously held by the retired Toni Kroos, Aurelien Tchouameni will take number 14, and Arda Guler, who impressed at the Euros with Turkey, will wear number 15.
Arda Guler made headlines with his stunning goal against Georgia, becoming the youngest player to score on his European Championship debut at 19 years and 114 days, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s record set at UEFA Euro 2004.
