All eyes are set on Miami this July 14th as Argentina faces off against Colombia in the Copa America 2024 final.

Preview

The Copa America 2024 trophy is up for grabs this Sunday, as Argentina faces Colombia in a highly anticipated final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Argentina, the reigning Copa, and world champions are chasing their 16th Copa America title, which would make them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. Led by the legendary Lionel Messi, who is eyeing yet another record, Argentina has been dominant throughout the tournament, conceding only one goal. They secured their place in the final by defeating a surprising Canadian team in the semi-finals.

Colombia, on the other hand, is seeking their first Copa America title since 2001. They topped Group D, finishing ahead of Brazil, and narrowly defeated Uruguay in a tense semi-final match marked by clashes between fans and players.

Team News

Argentina: Lionel Messi, who played the full 90 minutes despite a leg injury in Argentina’s win over Canada, is expected to start again in the final. Julian Alvarez, who scored in the semifinal, is likely to retain his place in the lineup over Lautaro Martinez.

Argentina’s defense remains solid with Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero at center-back. There are question marks over whether Nahuel Molina will start over Gonzalo Montiel at right-back, as Montiel has been managing an ankle problem.

In midfield, Nico Gonzalez and Giovani Lo Celso are vying for a spot ahead of Alexis Mac Allister, who has been playing on the left in a 4-4-2 formation.

Colombia: Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz will miss the final due to a red card in the semifinal against Uruguay. CONMEBOL has not confirmed any additional player bans following the ugly scenes after the game in North Carolina, so coach Nestor Lorenzo is set to stick with a largely unchanged team. Santiago Arias is expected to fill in at right-back. James Rodriguez will captain the team, with John Cordoba and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz leading the attack.

Argentina Predicted Lineup (4-4-2):

E. Martinez — Molina, Romero, Li. Martinez, Tagliafico — De Paul, Fernandez, Mac Allister, Gonzalez — Alvarez, Messi.

Colombia Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1):

Vargas — S. Arias, Sanchez, Cuesta, Mojica — Rios, Lerma — J. Arias, James, Diaz — Cordoba.
