UEFA Euro 2024 was an unpredictable tournament, with many of the favorites advancing but still not making much of an impact. As we moved into the knockout stages, the race for the UEFA Euro 2024 golden boot heated up.
Initially, Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze led the scoring charts with three goals after the group stages. However, he has since been joined by Cody Gakpo (Netherlands), Jamal Musiala (Germany), Ivan Schranz (Slovakia), Harry Kane (England), and Dani Olmo (Spain). With only Kane and Olmo remaining in the tournament’s final, the battle for the Golden Boot race.
Traditionally, if players finish with the same number of goals in a major tournament such as the Euros or the World Cup, the first tiebreaker is usually the number of assists. If there is still a tie, the next consideration is the fewest minutes played.
Who will win the UEFA Euro 2024 Golden Boot in case of a tie?
In the final in Berlin, England’s Harry Kane and Spain’s Dani Olmo are tied with three goals.
In past tournaments, Dani Olmo would be leading the rankings due to his two assists, compared to Kane’s none. However, UEFA has announced that for UEFA Euro 2024, if players finish with the same number of goals, the Golden Boot will be shared.
Kane and Olmo are among six players who all have three goals: Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze, Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo, Slovakia’s Ivan Schranz and Germany’s Jamal Musiala are the others.
Currently, six players have three goals: Georges Mikautadze (Georgia), Cody Gakpo (Netherlands), Ivan Schranz (Slovakia), Jamal Musiala (Germany), Harry Kane (England), and Dani Olmo (Spain). If neither Harry Kane nor Dani Olmo scores in the final and no other player surpasses their tally, the Golden Boot will be shared among all six.
Harry Kane’s journey in UEFA Euro 2024 has been a mix of deep playmaking roles and critical goal-scoring moments, including a controversial penalty against the Netherlands in the semifinal. If he wins, it will be his 2nd Golden Boot at a major tournament and will add to his accolades from the FIFA 2018 World Cup.
On the other hand, Dani Olmo has been a game-changer for Spain, often making a significant impact off the bench and converting crucial opportunities to propel his team to the final.
