Chelsea Close to Signing Argentine Teenager Anselmino
Chelsea are on the verge of another major transfer signing, with a deal for 19-year-old Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors reportedly agreed.
The Blues have been incredibly active in the transfer market this summer, with six new players already arriving at Stamford Bridge. The club is also set to complete the signing of Danish goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for £20.7 million
Fabrizio Romano writes that Chelsea have agreed a package with Boca Juniors worth more than $20m (£15.6m) for Anselmino. The young Argentine defender is expected to travel to the UK on Monday to complete and finalize the remaining transfer formalities.
But instead of linking up with Chelsea immediately, Anselmino will return to Argentina and stay with Boca Juniors on loan “at least” until January – Argentina’s 2024 season is underway.
Anselmino is a right-sided centre-back and his expected signing strengthens Chelsea’s options at the back. Trevoh Chalobah has been left out of the squad for this summer’s pre-season tour as Enzo Maresca already has Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofan, and Tosin Adarabioyo in that right-back role.
Even at just 26, Disasi and Adarabioyo are among the oldest players in the current squad, with Anselmino seemingly seen as one for the future.
