Barcelona Stall on Joao Cancelo Deal, Hope for Late Summer Windfall
FC Barcelona are playing a patient game in their pursuit of Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo. The Catalan giants are keen to sign with the Portuguese full-back after a successful loan spell last season, but financial constraints have forced them to adopt a cautious approach.
According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona are ready to act “patiently” to secure Joao Cancelo. Man City remains set for an asking price of €30m, which is too high for the Spanish side as they instead hope to drop that figure as the end of the transfer window nears.
Sporting director Deco plans to wait until later when Pep Guardiola’s determination to part ways with Cancelo could force City to agree another loan deal.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia are ready to match Man City’s price, but FC Barcelona are hoping Joao Cancelo will reject their advances to further increase the pressure on Man City to facilitate a return to Camp Nou.
Barcelona are in no rush to sign a right-back and already have Jules Kounde, Hector Fort, and Julian Araujo who can play on the right side of the defense.
As the transfer saga unfolds, all eyes will be on whether FC Barcelona can pull off a late deal for Joao Cancelo or if the Portuguese international will be forced to explore other options.
