Barcelona Welcome Home Prodigal Son: Dani Olmo Returns
Barcelona has officially secured the signing of midfield maestro Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig. The 26-year-old Spanish international, a product of the famed La Masia academy, is making a triumphant return to his roots for an initial fee of €55 million, with an additional €7 million in potential add-ons.
Olmo has committed his future to the Catalan giants by signing a six-year contract, tying him to the club until 2030. A testament to the club’s faith in his abilities, his release clause has been set at a staggering €500 million.
The versatile Spanish midfielder first joined FC Barcelona back in 2007 and spent seven years working his way up through La Masia before opting to take his talents to Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in search of an immediate pathway to first-team football.
Six years later, Dani Olmo made the move to RB Leipzig, where he would rack up 29 goals and 34 assists in 148 appearances before his return to FC Barcelona.
Reports suggest FC Barcelona officials have not yet given up hope of reuniting Dani Olmo with another Spain star, Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, whose contract includes a release clause of €58m.
Indeed, club president Joan Laporta is reported to have taken personal responsibility of the negotiations over Nico Williams in the hope of convincing him to walk away from Athletic this summer.
