Bruno Fernandes Signs New Contract to Stay at Manchester United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has committed his long-term future to the club by agreeing to a new contract. The Portuguese midfielder will remain at Old Trafford until at least 2027, with the option to extend his stay until 2028.

The deal sees Fernandes become one of the highest-paid players in the squad, joining the likes of Casemiro and Marcus Rashford at the top of the wage structure. His consistent performances and leadership qualities have made him an integral part of the team since his arrival in 2020.

Bruno Fernandes‘ future has been the subject of transfer speculation since the end of last season, with links to Paris Saint-Germain and the Saudi Pro League. He has repeatedly expressed his desire to continue at Old Trafford for as long as he is wanted, which has been left open to perception.

Now it looks like the Portuguese maestro will commit most of the rest of his career to United.

Fabrizio Romano writes that a deal is in place for Bruno Fernandes to sign a new contract for a further three years until the summer of 2027, with the option of another season until 2028. As part of this, his salary is set to rise to the highest level of the salary structure.

For reference, Casemiro and Marcus Rashford are considered to be the current top earners between £350,000 and £375,000 per week. Estimates of Bruno Fernandes’ current salary range from £220,000 to £250,000 per week. His current contract expires in 2026.

Bruno Fernandes is tipped to officially announce his name under the new terms by the end of the month.

If the option year in the new deal is triggered and the former Sporting CP star stays on until 2028, it would expire just over two months before his 34th birthday.

Bruno Fernandes has been a huge influence for Manchester United in an otherwise difficult period for the club. His storming arrival in January 2020 resulted in a stunning haul of goals from midfield over the next 18 months – 40 in 80 games, as well as 26 assists. That level of goal production has since slowed with a changing role, but he has still consistently hit double figures and is routinely United’s most creative player on the pitch. Fernandes also took over as captain in 2023.

His affinity with the Old Trafford club began long before he joined as a player, first taking an active interest from afar when he was captivated by compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo as a child.
