Cole Palmer Pens New Long-Term Chelsea Deal
Chelsea have secured the future of star midfielder Cole Palmer by agreeing on a lucrative new contract with the England international.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence since his £40 million move from Manchester City last summer, netting 25 goals and providing 15 assists in his debut campaign. His impressive performances quickly earned him a place in the heart of the Chelsea midfield and a significant pay rise.
Palmer has agreed to extend his original contract by two years and is now tied to Chelsea until the summer of 2033.
Perhaps most importantly, The Athletic note that the midfielder has been given a pay rise as a reward for instantly becoming a key player for the club.
Palmer’s importance to Chelsea in the upcoming campaign has already been outlined by new manager Enzo Maresca, who confirmed during the summer that the England international will be the team’s first-class penalty taker following another altercation during pre-season.
“When he comes back with us, Cole is the one to take over,” Maresca revealed after the 3-0 win over Club America.
Palmer scored nine times from the penalty spot last season and is yet to miss from 12 yards in his senior career after netting in a friendly against England in the summer. Only Blues legend Frank Lampard has ever scored more penalty goals in a single season, with the former midfielder and manager netting ten in 2009/10.
