Arne Slot’s Liverpool Off to a Flying Start
Liverpool’s new era under Arne Slot began with a convincing 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener. Goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah sealed the deal for the Reds at Portman Road.
Despite a promising start from the newly-promoted Ipswich, who were competing in the top flight for the first time since 2002, Liverpool’s quality shone through in the second half. Jota opened the scoring before Salah doubled the lead to secure the three points for Slot’s side.
Their goals came in quick succession – a close-range finish set up by Diogo Jota opened the scoring on the hour.
Mohamed Salah got right into the action on 65 minutes, providing an assist for Liverpool to score, and showed no signs of slipping into the Arne slot side Jota had already squandered a golden opportunity to give Liverpool the lead, although the Reds were arguably second for much of the first half.
Ipswich failed to make the most of their opening however, and Kieran McKenna’s side were ultimately punished as the Tractor Boys lost out in their long-awaited big-time comeback
