Robert Lewandowski Double Powers Depleted Barcelona to LaLiga Victory
Barcelona staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Valencia 2-1 in their opening La Liga match of the season, with Robert Lewandowski scoring both goals.
Barca were without several key players including Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, and Ilkay Gundogan in their first competitive match under Flick and were under a lot of pressure in the first half at the Mestalla.
Valencia put in a spirited display and hit the front in the 44th minute when Hugo Duro headed Diego Lopez’s pass past Marc-Andre ter Stegen from close range.
Duro almost doubled Los Che’s lead when he saw his effort cleared off the line in first-half stoppage time, and Barca immediately equalized at the other end.
Lewandowski set up Euro 2024 star Lamine Yamal after five minutes of first-half stoppage time and doubled their lead shortly after the break.
Raphinha was brought down inside the area by Cristhian Mosquera, allowing Lewandowski to fire an unstoppable penalty into the top corner that proved to be the winner.
