Cole Palmer Named PFA Young Player of the Year
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has been crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season. The 22-year-old’s impressive debut campaign with the Blues, featuring 22 goals and 11 assists in 34 Premier League appearances, has earned him this prestigious recognition.
No player in the Premier League has scored more goals than Palmer, who forced his way into England’s Euro 2024 squad by establishing himself as one of the division’s most dangerous players.
Palmer topped a shortlist that also included Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Michael Olise (Crystal Palace, now Bayern Munich), Joao Pedro (Brighton and Hove Albion) and last year’s winner Bukayo Saka (Arsenal).
Palmer is the first Chelsea player to win the award since Eden Hazard, who collected the award in 2013/14. The Blues’ only other winner is Scott Parker, who won in 2003/04 after joining from Charlton Athletic in January.
Pochettino said of Palmer last season: “One of the best skills is his mentality and ability to deal with pressure. He’s young and I think it’s his first season where he’s playing very consistently. I think it’s amazing how he copes with pressure. That’s all very well.” the player can be.
“You can’t say he’s not a top player.”
