Angel Correa grabbed a stoppage-time equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in a LaLiga derby that was suspended in the second half.
The home fans threw objects onto the pitch near Thibaut Courtois in the 69th minute, forcing a stoppage as the problem was resolved.
Shortly before that, Eder Militao opened the scoring for the visitors, who tried to cross past Jan Oblak’s goal in the 64th minute.
Play was suspended for around 20 minutes and when the players returned to the pitch, Atletico increased the pressure.
They eventually equalized in the 95th minute, substitute Correa rounding Courtois and curling into an empty net, and the goal, originally ruled out for offside, was disallowed after VAR review.
Four minutes later, Diego Llorente was sent off for a hard challenge on Fran Garcia, with VAR changing his yellow card to red.
Real Madrid are second in the table with 18 points, three behind Barcelona but two ahead of Atlético, who are third after eight games.
