Andres Iniesta to Retire: Barcelona Legend’s Farewell
Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta is set to retire from professional football at the age of 40. The midfielder, known for his exceptional skills and contributions to both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, will officially announce his retirement next week.
According to Relev, there will be a retirement event in Barcelona next week, with the club also retiring his number eight shirt.
Iniesta himself also released a teaser for the October 8 event, which features the midfielder in a Barca shirt with the number eight, his former club number, transformed into an infinity symbol.
The midfielder is best known for his remarkable time at Camp Nou and as a key player during Spain’s golden era on the international stage. During his peak years with both teams, Iniesta collected a staggering number of major honours, including nine La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions Leagues, two European Championships and a FIFA World Cup – scoring the famous winner in the final against the Netherlands. 2010.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time, Iniesta forms a now legendary partnership with fellow Barcelona and Spain player Xavi Hernandez at the heart of both teams’ midfields.
The legendary star spent one season on the books at the Emirates, making 20 appearances in the UAE Pro League and scoring five goals. Before this spell, Iniesta also ended his illustrious career in the J1 League with Vissel Kobe, spending six years in Japan and winning one league title, the Emperor’s Cup and the Japanese Super Cup.
