In a tightly contested match, Martin Zubimendi’s 79th-minute goal secured a 1-0 victory for Spain over Denmark in Murcia, allowing La Roja to leapfrog their opponents and take the lead in League A Group 4 of the Nations League.
Denmark started strong, with Kasper Dolberg testing Spanish goalkeeper David Raya early in the game, just three minutes in, after receiving a pass from Christian Eriksen. Spain’s captain, Alvaro Morata, came close to scoring in the 21st minute, but his shot from an Alejandro Grimaldo cross went inches wide of the post. Lamine Yamal also had a chance just before halftime but failed to challenge Kasper Schmeichel after outpacing Rasmus Kristensen.
The second half saw Spain come out with renewed energy, and they finally forced a significant save from Schmeichel in the 68th minute when he denied Morata from close range. The decisive moment arrived in the 79th minute when Victor Nelsson’s headed clearance fell to Zubimendi at the edge of the box. The midfielder struck a first-time volley that slipped through Schmeichel’s gloves and into the net, giving Spain the lead.
