Pep Guardiola Urges Manchester City to Change Course After Fourth Straight Loss
Pep Guardiola acknowledged the urgent need for Manchester City to “change things quickly” following their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions, this time against Brighton. This marks a historic low for Guardiola, as it is the first time in his managerial career that he has faced four losses in a row, a feat not seen at City since August 2006 under Stuart Pearce.
Despite Erling Haaland giving City a first-half lead, Brighton turned the match around with two rapid goals from substitutes Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley, showcasing their dominance in the second half. This defeat also marked the first time since May 2021 that City lost a Premier League match after leading at halftime, with that previous loss also occurring against Brighton.
Guardiola pointed to the team’s struggles, exacerbated by injuries, stating, “We are not able to do 90 minutes right now.” He emphasized the need for a mental reset during the upcoming international break, hoping for a return of fit players to help regain their winning form. “We have to try and win games again,” he added, reflecting on the challenges ahead.
During their current losing streak, City has conceded 10 goals while managing to score only four. With tough fixtures against Tottenham and Liverpool looming, defender Kyle Walker expressed that the international break might provide a much-needed pause. “There are slight moments that aren’t rubbing off in our favour,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of character during this challenging period.
Walker acknowledged the team’s unprecedented run of four games without a win, stating, “It’s tough to take. Everyone wants to turn it around.” As City looks to bounce back, the focus will be on resilience and determination to reclaim their winning ways.
