Copa América 2024 Team of the Tournament: A Long-Awaited Lineup
After a seemingly endless wait, the Copa América 2024 Team of the Tournament has finally been unveiled. The announcement, coming a staggering 16 days after the tournament concluded, left fans eagerly anticipating the star-studded lineup.
Lionel Messi Headlines Argentina Dominance
There are some familiar faces in the line-up, including Lionel Messi, who made it into the top 11. But does it deserve a spot? That is a question open to debate. Messi, playing in his seventh and final Copa América, scored one goal to help Argentina to their 16th title.
The FC Barcelona legend is joined by teammates Emiliano Martínez, Lautaro Martínez, Rodrigo De Paul, and Cristian Romero, making Argentina the most represented country in the selection.
Surprisingly, the list was not just an Argentine showcase. James Rodríguez, known for his dazzling performances, returned to lead Colombia to their first final in 23 years. The talented ten contributed one goal and 6 assists, which is the most since 2011.
Another notable inclusion was Brazil’s Raphinha, who was one of the few shining stars in an otherwise underwhelming Brazilian campaign. His stunning free-kick goal against Colombia was the highlight of the tournament.
The team also included players from Ecuador, Uruguay, and even Canada, represented by Alistair Johnston, who made his North American debut.
